A successful ex-boxer opens a high-class speakeasy in what once was the childhood home of a formerly rich society girl.
An ex-prizefighter (George Raft), looking to make something of his life, buys a ritzy nightclub, mingles with the smart set and falls in love with a socialite. Constance Cummings and Alison Skipworth co-star in this small-scale drama, which is long on Prohibition-era atmosphere but short on interesting content. The film is remembered, however, for promoting Raft to leading man status, and is unforgettable for marking the screen debut of Mae West. "Goodness, what diamonds!" remarks a hat-check girl as she makes her entrance. "Goodness had nothing to do with it, dearie," Mae replies.
