Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

This strong, affecting biopic tells the story of a courageous, unsung Los Angeles folk hero. Pedro J Gonzalez, played by Mexican actor/singer Oscar Chavez, was the city's first Hispanic radio host who, instead of opting to play a few mariachi songs and recommending taco outlets, tried to rouse his compatriots into nonviolent political action. Through the use of an intelligent script, a merciful lack of clichés and Chavez's fine performance, we come to understand the man and the hornet's nest he stirred up.
