An aspiring director and the marginally talented amateur cast of a hokey small-town Missouri musical production go overboard when they learn that someone from Broadway will be in attendance.
Straight-faced "mockumentary" that sends up am-dram pretentiousness and middle American values in equal measure. Directed by and starring Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap), the film's spot-on spoofery focuses on a small-town "auteur" and his ambitious plan to stage a musical review to mark the town's 150th anniversary. The results are far funnier than the film's inability to secure UK distribution might suggest (it earned merely a low-key video release over here), and a strong support cast includes Catherine O'Hara (Home Alone) and Parker Posey (Scream 3).
