Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Director Leslie Norman, Barry's father, probably heaved a huge sigh of relief when he parted company with this Hammer stinker just a few days into production. Michael Carreras took over and immediately ran the project on to the cinematic rocks. The story (adapted from a Dennis Wheatley novel by Carreras under the pseudonym Michael Nash) is wonderfully bizarre, with Eric Porter and his crew setting foot on an island ruled by the Spanish Inquisition. But it's the monsters that will have you shrieking with laughter, though, not terror. One of the effects wizards, Robert A Mattey had the last laugh, however - he designed Jaws. Crass or classic? You choose.
