Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Angelina Jolie gives an early knockout performance in this dark and provocative TV movie. She stars as Gia Carangi, whose rise to fame as a supermodel in the 1970s brought tragedy as she became addicted to pills, cocaine and heroin. With its almost soft-core porn style, this is more an art house film then standard TV-movie fare. Strong performances by Mercedes Ruehl as Gia's mother and Faye Dunaway as her agent give it a powerful punch. Whatever your reservations about the subject matter, Gia deserves a look, if only for the multifaceted performance of Jolie.
