Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

In the second of their five screen twinnings, husband-and-wife team Michael Denison and Dulcie Gray experience a few marital difficulties after he returns from RAF duty obsessed with both an idea for an opera and Valentina Cortese, the partisan who rescued him from the mountain snow. The subject of couples forced apart because of differing wartime experiences is worthy of attention, but director Henry Cass struggles to prevent it being buried in an avalanche of sentimentality. The polished finale features members of Milan's celebrated La Scala company, performing music co-written by Federico Fellini's regular composer, Nino Rota.
