Romantic drama starring Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr. Forty years after the end of the Second World War, an American pilot returns to England for a reunion where he encounters an old flame with some surprising news.
Over a quarter of a century after they made Heaven Knows, Mr Allison, Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr teamed up for the fourth time in this burnished tale of reunions and revelations. Originally made for American television but also given a cinema release, Herbert Wise's verbose melodrama centres on ex-GI Mitchum's return to the village where he'd been based during the war to discover that he not only fathered Kerr's child, but is also now a grandfather. Red Buttons and Barry Morse provide efficient support and Tony Imi's photography romanticises the rural locations, but the easy rapport of the leads is key to its success.
