The Viennese-born Otto Preminger had only directed one film in Germany when he was given a contract at 20th Century-Fox. This enjoyable screwball comedy was the second picture he made for the studio. The inconsequential plot involves Jack Haley (soon to play the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz) as a lawyer sent to a small town to buy up a piece of property owned by an eccentric family. But it is the cast that makes the movie: Mary Boland at her most scatterbrained, pert Ann Sothern, fussy Edward Everett Horton and demented John Carradine.
