Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

"Eventful" is how the wilderness called the Timber is described in this snowbound gold-rush western. It's true plenty of things happen when two brothers (Josh Peck, James Ransone) turn to bounty hunting to save their farm from repossession, only to find their quarry is their estranged and vicious father. But the plot is so bereft of emotional meat or narrative cohesion, there's little to care about, even as the siblings try to survive the bone-chilling elements, a cannibalistic mountain man and their deadly daddy. The fact the latter is played by avuncular William Gaunt from cult 60s TV show The Champions and cosy British sitcom No Place like Home is hard to swallow, too. Pity, because with authentic-looking locations (in Romania) and a committed cast, it's an adventure that could have delivered more.
