As an introduction to a much-loved American children's TV character for wider audiences, this full-length Disney animation does a fairly successful job, with a tale hingeing on a now-familiar eco-message. A squidgy, pollution-induced monster (named after Moby Dick writer Herman Melville) is found by oddball high-school student Doug Funnie and his friend Skeeter in a lake owned by wicked tycoon Bill Bluff. The cautionary conclusion will be easily understood by the three-to-eight-year-olds at which it's aimed, and they'll have an enjoyable, if rather bland time getting there.
