Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Although it purports to be a whodunnit, this TV movie is sidetracked by so many minor issues and subplots that it's hard to sustain interest in the lurid goings-on of the main plot. The fact that the town of Fortune, Arizona, is dominated by a religious cult that permits polygamy gives the action a certain novelty. But, instead of tracking down the killer of a sailor's girlfriend, James Brolin's naval detective spends much of his time trying to build bridges with his estranged teenage daughter (Amanda Fuller) - a relationship that's nowhere near as intriguing as sheriff Michael Moriarty's marriage to the mysterious Virginia Madsen.
