Ever ready to exploit a trend, the Children's Film Foundation combined the hit TV show The Six Million Dollar Man with the Ealing classic The Man in the White Suit in this lively adventure. The special effects are strictly bargain basement, but they add to the charm of a parable about bullying and being true to oneself that sees pint-sized 12-year-old Sammy Smith (Reggie Winch) discover that he doesn't need a supercharged boost to prove he's a winner. Along the way, Sammy also has to overcome the scheming duo of Mr Becket (Richard Vernon) and Mr Trotter (Julian Holloway), who want to make a fortune from the tiger T-shirt that has acquired remarkable powers after being zapped with electricity in the Chemi-Tex laboratory. What sets this apart from other kidpix of the period is the fact that Sammy's best friend, Marvin (Lawrie Mark), is of Caribbean origin and the CFF won an award at a French festival for promoting racial harmony.
