Jed Marlowe is a brilliant, scheming, unscrupulous criminal lawyer whose specialty is defending criminal he knows is guilty but gets them off through loop-holes or bribery. Then his daughter, misled by her father's courtroom performance, but unaware of his back-room tactics, marries the killer her father has just unjustly save from the electric chair. What's a poor father to do?
If you're not allergic to Lee Tracy's fast, attention-grabbing performances, there's an ingenious story told in this courtroom melodrama. Tracy is well cast as a defence lawyer whose tricks get murderers off. He doesn't like it one bit, however, when his precious daughter, played by Barbara Read, elopes with a killer, Patric Knowles, whom she believes is innocent because papa's clever tactics persuaded the jury to acquit him. It's Tracy's show, with weak back-up in a film never intended to be more than double-feature material.
