Paperback Hero

This is nothing to do with the Aussie film of the same name, though its storyline follows vaguely similar fantasy-life lines. Keir Dullea, alias astronaut David Bowman in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: a Space Odyssey, comes down to earth to play a small-town hockey hero and ladies' man who leads a double life as the town's gunfighter. In his daydreams, anyway. Nicely acted by a cast which also includes Elizabeth Ashley, the film holds interest but never quite scales the same heights of escapist excellence as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
