Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Italian heart-throb Vittorio Gassman is an escaped convict being pursued through the boggy Louisiana bayous by officer Barry Sullivan. The few scenes with Polly Bergen - playing Sullivan's wife - were added later in an attempt to attract the female audience. But this is really a suspenseful chase movie, shot on authentically swampy locations by the fitfully brilliant Joseph H Lewis, of Gun Crazy fame. What's good about the movie is the amount of material pressed into 78 minutes: the internal politics at the jail and the deals struck with prisoners are all made clear as the chase gets underway.
