Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Celebrating the oral tradition of Indian classical music and stressing the need for ancient art to survive the passage of time, Rajan Khosa's debut feature is a simple, but affecting, delight. In a film that rings with echoes and duets, it's apt that the themes of transience and devotion should counterpoint Satyajit Ray's The Music Room. But, besides showing the teeming streets of Delhi, there's a much reduced socio-political element to the story of a singer (Kitu Gidwani) who rediscovers the voice (provided by Shweta Zaveri) she lost on the death of her mother and mentor through her relationship with divine urchin Roshan Bano.
