Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

A highly acclaimed and well-acted tale, based on the experiences of a Jewish Holocaust survivor who managed to avoid death by forming an orchestra with fellow captives. Vanessa Redgrave who caused controversy when she accepted the role owing to her Palestinian sympathies is as impressive and heartfelt as ever, and she is given memorable support by Jane Alexander and Melanie Mayron, of thirtysomething fame. Perhaps too heart-rending for some tastes, this is nonetheless a thought-provoking and moving drama.
