Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

In this American Civil War tale a couple of Yankee soldiers escape from imprisonment in the South, become spies and hook up with a glamorous Russian refugee while they're on the run. On paper, this unlikely, not to mention fanciful, idea sounds like a Bob Hope spoof, but it's actually an action-packed period adventure. The men are Wallace Beery and John Howard; the lady is Mexican beauty Dolores Del Rio, who was to vanish from the screen until her reappearance with Orson Welles in 1942's Journey into Fear.
