Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Good-natured satire on Californian lifestyles from Ealing expatriate Alexander Mackendrick, better known for Whisky Galore! and Sweet Smell of Success. Tony Curtis, reunited with his Sweet Smell director, gives a clever performance as a tourist who gets a job selling swimming pools. However, the real revelation is the witty comedy playing of Sharon Tate, tragically murdered by the Manson "family" two years later. The wacky plot is taken from Ira Wallach's novel Muscle Beach, while the Byrds provide the title song for a film that's nostalgically rooted in the early days of psychedelia.
