Suspense drama starring George Peppard and Michael Sarrazin. A secret American space project based in Vancouver is ripped apart by an explosion. One man survives, severely disfigured by the blast. But, as surgeons struggle to save him, he becomes the chief suspect in the government's investigations.
This thriller about spies in the space programme was severely cut on its original UK release, but now shows in its full (though still slightly incomprehensible) version. It's really one of those high-gloss features that Universal made to show off and use up its contract players - in this case George Peppard and Michael Sarrazin. Director Lamont Johnson handles the suspense well enough, but his talent never really found an outlet in grade A features. The scripting could have been tighter and the leading lady (Christine Belford) more distinguished - and perhaps not excised from the plot quite so harshly - but the Vancouver locations look splendid.
