This is an unashamedly sensationalist fact-based story about a single mother who finds herself charged with conspiracy when her new boyfriend is exposed as a drug dealer. Graeme Campbell directs solidly, but it's a mediocre project for Mercedes Ruehl, an actress with an Oscar and a Golden Globe (both for her supporting role in The Fisher King) to her name. Yet it's to Ruehl's credit that she makes both her tribulations behind bars and her determination to protect her kids seem traumatic rather than just melodramatic.
