Talented youngster Pat Donahue is working in the Berkshires. He learns of a great part in New York City and auditions. But after winning the role he finds out it was originally intended for his father Patrick. The son is reluctant to do what's right.
This breezy Universal musical has the usual corny showbiz setting, but it allows Donald O'Connor and Peggy Ryan to shine in a few pleasant numbers and gives O'Connor the chance to perform some spectacular tap-dancing. The paper-thin plot has Donald and his father (a colourless Donald Cook) as rivals for the same part in a Broadway show. Eve Arden, usually relied on to perk up the dullest screenplay, only has a few wisecracks here.
