Summary

Romantic comedy starring Benoît Poelvoorde and Isabelle Carré. Angélique is a talented chocolatier who allows her creations to speak for themselves, while she lives a shy, retiring and anonymous life. She accepts a new job at a company that is facing financial ruin and finds herself drawn to the owner, Jean-René - a man as timid as herself. The two seem destined for each other, as long as one of them can make the first move.

Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

This delightfully off-the-wall comedy follows two emotionally challenged misfits as they stumble along the path to true love. Angélique (Isabelle Carré) tries to overcome her crippling shyness at a support group for lonely hearts, the "Romantics Anonymous" of the title. She meets the potential man of her dreams when she finds work at a struggling chocolate factory run by the equally awkward Jean-René (Benoît Poelvoorde). The couple's mishap-filled courtship plays out over a series of hilarious set pieces; will their mutual love of confectionery help them find their way to future happiness? Director Jean-Pierre Améris's quirky film is a wonderful blend of the comic and the cringe-making that should appeal to viewers charmed by the likes of Amélie. Poelvoorde plays the nervous buffoon to perfection, with Carré's clumsiness and wide-eyed innocence an ideal complement - a sweet pairing you'll be rooting for from the start.
