Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Ever the underdog, Raj Kapoor takes the lead in this outspoken attack on capitalism and medical irresponsibility. It focuses on the plight of a painter, who is accused of murdering his landlady, even though a medicine produced by the company he works for is really to blame. Nutan is charming as the company owner's niece who poses as her own maid to prevent Raj from discovering the extent of her wealth. But the emphasis is clearly as much on the social issues as on escapism, prompting many critics to suggest that Kapoor had as much to do with the direction as Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
