Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Bollywood's favourite action girl of the 1930s and 40s was born Mary Evans in Perth, Australia, moved to India as a child, and won the epithet "Fearless" Nadia after delighting audiences with her daring stunt work in 1935's Hunterwali. Directed here, as ever, by her eventual husband, Homi Wadia, and accompanied by her faithful steed, Punjab ka Beta, she delivers the good people of Diamond Town from assorted baddies in this rousing adventure. John Cawas is her nominal co-star, playing a reformed bandit. But all eyes are on the "Pearl White of India", as she risks death atop a waterfall, wields a trusty sword and survives a skirmish on the roof of a hurtling carriage. It's as subtle as a serial, but great fun.
