Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

A well-preserved Tom Berenger is the strongest element in an essentially Wild West take on CSI. Charting the arrival of forensics in a small 1880s mining town, this feature-length pilot for a short-lived TV series sees Berenger's old-fashioned marshal form a reluctant partnership with a scientifically orientated Pinkerton agent (Peter O'Meara) to find a land baron's killer. Cue the obligatory fast zooms and rapid cuts of contemporary crime dramas, as O'Meara and local mortician Amy Carlson gather autopsy evidence. It's all very join-the-dots and insubstantial, with events tying themselves up too quickly and easily. Unconvincing action scenes intensify the overall lack of excitement, though at least the acting is tolerable.
