CutThroat Island

This pirate picture from director Renny Harlin has all the right ingredients to shiver the timbers - and boasts the best treasure map ever seen on screen - yet it has gone down as one of the biggest box-office disasters of all time. Geena Davis and Matthew Modine swagger with bravado as treasure hunters, but their performances are sunk by a clockwork plot that ticks off the usual sea battles, swordfights and romantic interludes with little originality. It's a polished production, but with a little more imagination this could have been something really exhilarating.
