Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Something of a surprise smash hit in its day, this modest but utterly charming piece of whimsy started a series featuring the guileless heroine, who came from the backwoods to charm Louisiana society. Debbie Reynolds is endearingly energetic as the heroine with a talent for sorting out problems (something of a teenage Shirley Temple) and wistfully sings the song Tammy, by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, that was to top the Hit Parade in both the USA and UK.
