You can almost smell the school dinners in this wonderful comedy, adapted by John Dighton and Frank Launder from Dighton's play and directed by Launder (witht his longtime creative partner Sidney Gilliat acting as producer). The bones of contention that arise when Margaret Rutherford's academy for young ladies is accidentally evacuated to a building already occupied by Alastair Sim's boys' school are beautifully observed, but the comic highlight is undoubtedly the precision with which the pupils scurry around the school to avoid groups of visiting VIPs. The heads are superb and the performances of Richard Wattis, Guy Middleton and Joyce Grenfell are top class.
