Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

In the Mesopotamian desert during the First World War, a small group of lost British cavalrymen search for their comrades while being gradually finished off by Arab snipers, the scorching sun and lack of water. As directed by John Ford, it's more of a western than a war movie: the soldiers do everything but yell "Let's get the wagons into a circle, boys!", and the climactic skirmish looks like Custer's Last Stand. There's not a single woman in sight, of course, which led Variety to comment: "Its appeal is directed mostly to men, yet women, whose tastes are often an enigma, may find something about it they like."
