Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Produced by Channel 4, Stephen Poliakoff's first feature as director is weighed down by confusion. It follows the search by sociologist Charles Dance and obsessive Cassie Stuart for a piece of government film which may contain a sinister secret. The consequent investigation leads our intrepid duo to further discarded bureaucratic items hidden in a maze of tunnels beneath the city of London. Formidably filled with menace, there are just too many plotlines, which prevent this debut achieving high status. However, Poliakoff's script goes some way to removing the audience's objections to these implausibilities, creating a menacing and seedy London. There are rather too many tunnels, though, and the metaphor quickly becomes a little tiresome.
