Summary

Elsa the Snow Queen finds herself strangely unsettled. After hearing a mysterious voice call out to her, she travels to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom, an adventure that soon turns into a journey of self-discovery. Sequel to the blockbusting animated adventure, featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad.

Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

It takes time to warm up - the superbly choreographed second song Into the Unknown breaks the ice - but returning directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee have crafted a worthy sequel to their own original gamechanger. In a darker and thematically deeper continuation of the story, Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell), with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf (Josh Gad) and reindeer Sven, search the misty far north for an enchanted forest where the truth about their royal parents lies. They also learn the origin of Elsa's powers and how to save their Arendelle home. The movie is as much about the permanence of love, fear and grief as spectacular fairy-tale fantasy and edgy humour, and the entrancing animation shimmers with a peerless fluidity that is simply stunning. Show Yourself is probably the Let it Go earworm equivalent, topping a razzle-dazzle score of Broadway belters, power ballads and reprises in this magically mesmerising, snow-stopping triumph.
