Lansky

Harvey Keitel takes the title role in this bloody biopic of mob accountant Meyer Lansky, a key figure in the formation of Murder Incorporated, the enforcement arm of the Italian-American Mafia and the Jewish mob. Now retired after more than 50 years as a crime kingpin, Lansky meets with down-at-heel writer David Stone (Sam Worthington) to tell his story, but are his versions of past events to be trusted? The screenplay, by director Eytan Rockaway and his father Robert, explores the twilight years of a gangster in a similar vein to Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, although in a more pedestrian fashion. Much of the violence features in a series of well-staged if perfunctory flashbacks, but Keitel's menacing portrayal suggests a man still capable of intimidation.
