Review
A very slow and laborious tale which relies on far too many flashbacks. Centred around the court case of JE Freeman in Depression America, the film explains how an ordinary, gentle man finds the love of his life but is driven to robbery and murder in order to survive and provide for her. Based on the background of director Dan Bessie and the novel Bread and a Stone written by his father, this well-meaning project has substance but little style. As far as courtroom dramas go this is mediocre fare.
