Unlucky-in-love school teacher Sarah (Beattie Edmondson) inherits a badly behaved pug from her late grandmother in this slushy and sentimental comedy that's desperately short on gags. Although the adorable Patrick turns her home life upside down, Sarah is hopeful that walking the naughty mutt in her local park may help her finally meet Mr Right exercising his own pet, but predictably not all goes to plan. The awkward mix of romantic comedy and child-friendly canine high jinks is hit-and-miss at best, barely helped by the human star's underwhelming reliance on Bridget Jones-style clumsiness and a narrative that offers few (if any) surprises. Heavyweight comic talent in supporting roles, including Edmondson's mother Jennifer Saunders, promises much but is ultimately wasted in a yarn that may struggle to hold the attention of viewers of any age.
