A major studio like Warner Bros is far too strait-laced to produce an out-and-out exploitation movie, though that was the pitch for this story of women convicts that went out on a double-bill with Samar, a tale of male political prisoners in the Philippines in the 19th century. But back to the women, chief among whom is Shirley Knight, sentenced to five years for robbery even though she's pregnant and just about as saintly as Mother Teresa or Mary Pickford. Compared to Jonathan Demme's Caged Heat, which is the real Ms McCoy, this is a Women's Institute tea party.
