Although the original TV movie had attracted a sizeable American audience, it was the success of this sequel that finally persuaded producer Aaron Spelling to give the go-ahead for the long-running series. Four romances are covered in this kitschy compendium, one even involving cruise director Diane Stilwell. Hy Averback directs with a steady hand, yet this is, perhaps, too smooth a voyage - a little more tumult might not have gone amiss. Several series regulars - Fred "Gopher" Grandy, Bernie "Doc" Kopell and Ted "Isaac" Lange - are already in place, while Celeste Holm and Kristy McNichol are standouts on the passenger list.
