Berger is on top form with his pitiless depiction of a homicidal maniac - so devoid of humanity he truly chills the spine - who kidnaps and brutalises an informer's girlfriend, played by spaghetti sex siren Marisa Mell. Director Sergio Grieco highlights the mean-spirited violence and sexual sadism - ferocious beatings, quicklime torture, razor-slashings - with a lip-smacking prurience that the squeamish will find sickening.
