Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Mala Powers is best remembered as Roxanne to José Ferrer's Oscar-winning Cyrano de Bergerac, and was the narrator of From Russia to Hollywood, a documentary about two drama teachers that was shown at the 1999 London film festival. Here, as Rose, she's an orphan brought up by native Americans who's seeking revenge for the death of her parents. Powers's co-star is Jack Buetel, once Howard Hughes's Billy the Kid in the infamous The Outlaw, but it's up to western veterans such as Jim Davis (later better known for Dallas), Bill Williams and old hand Bob Steele to keep this production on its feet. Incidentally, this was published as a one-off comic book in the 1950s with a knockout cover: mint copies are now much prized by collectors.
