Review

A star rating of 1 out of 5.

One of the nine movies Boris Karloff made in 1940, this has to be the daftest B-movie the horror king ever appeared in. After polio claims the life of his child, Dr Adrian (Karloff) searches for a cure. He discovers his prototype serum will only work if it contains human spinal fluid; so he kills an escaped circus ape, skins it and, disguised in the animal's hide, hunts for more of the precious liquid. Meanwhile a sheriff's posse - on the trail of the ape for mauling its trainer - moves in for the kill. Neither the story nor its melodramatic treatment in this ridiculously dumb potboiler stand up to scrutiny.
