Sub Zero

Expert mountaineer Costas Mandylor and his crack team risk their lives to retrieve a world-threatening device from the top of K2 in this goofy adventure. Yet though the clock's ticking, there's more agitated talk than rock face action for the film's first hour, as the reluctant heroes trade bitchy insults and naff one-liners with their amusingly gung-ho military clients. A flurry of activity immediately prior to their ascent brings sabotage and murder into the increasingly preposterous mix, but instead of adding drama, it just feels like further plot-padding. Sadly, after all the waiting, the climactic climbing scenes are neither dynamic nor convincing, while an emotional ending is obliterated by poor acting and weak special effects.
