Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Based on Robert Heinlein's landmark alien-invasion novel The Puppet Masters (which Disney remade in 1999), this routine B-movie exemplifies the atomic-era paranoia genre. Yet, despite the laughable, hairy, neck-burrowing parasites and the stock scientist-versus-the-military scenario, director Bruno VeSota creates an imaginatively bleak atmosphere through tilted camera angles and crisp black-and-white photography. No great shakes, but it is only an hour long and Star Trek fanatics can see their beloved Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in an early intergalactic role.
