Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

This relatively late entry in the popular Columbia series - which ran for 12 years and amazingly comprised 28 features - is a little treat for those meeting Blondie for the first time. The series was unique in featuring a continuity of sorts (the Bumstead children grew up, Daisy the dog had pups), and was remarkably faithful to Chic Young's comic strip in casting actors that looked uncannily like their drawn selves. In this particular outing, Dagwood ends up in prison after he turns to gambling in order to solve a financial problem. Blondie (the delightful Penny Singleton) naturally comes to the rescue. Bobby Larson plays the inquisitive Alvin Fuddle, filling in for regular actor Danny Mummert, who resumed his role in the next episode. It's unlikely that anybody, save hardened fans, will notice the switch.
