Crime drama starring Robert Young and Susan Hayward. On trial for his life, Larry Ballentine is given the chance to explain his own story - one of greed, lust, dishonesty and revenge.
Robert Young sheds his good guy image here to play a rogue on trial for murder. He has cheated on his wealthy wife (neatly played by the underrated Rita Johnson), getting involved with a young writer (Jane Greer) and then with a gold-digging secretary (Susan Hayward). Told as a long flashback, this is written by crime novelist Jonathan Latimer, produced by Hitchcock associate Joan Harrison, and directed by former actor Irving Pichel. It's a bit artificial, but still neatly produced and engrossing.
