Director Stuart Margolin is probably most well-known for being the engaging but irritating Angel in The Rockford Files, as well as a busy actor and director of television series. Here he excels himself with an ambitious TV movie that stars his longtime pal James Garner as a married man suffering a midlife crisis. Joan Hackett, in one of her last roles, matches the masterful Garner and their beautifully modulated performances are the heart of this small-town drama. Unsentimental, humorous and intelligently scripted, this is a low-key work about an all too human relationship.
