Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

A couple of faces from the big- and small-screen cult Jackass are let loose on an amusement park in this juvenile comic yarn based on a true story. Johnny Knoxville stars as DC, the manager of Action Point, based on a real-life New Jersey attraction that was shut down in the mid-1990s after a string of accidents, a health-and-safety nightmare that provides rich pickings for the gruesome slapstick with which Knoxville made his name. The outlandish stunts are not for the squeamish, and are barely held together by a storyline that appears to have placeholders instead of punchlines, as if the makers are still trying to think of something funny. A subplot involving DC's struggle to raise his 14-year-old daughter seems mawkishly out of step with the manic and moronic cartoon violence of grown men acting the goat.
