Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

This middling animated fairy tale is nothing special narratively nor visually, but it does boast rather better songs than usual, some of them sung by its actor/singer star Demi Lovato. Cursed with irresistible allure by a miffed fairy, sappy Prince Charming finds himself simultaneously engaged to airheads Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. But three-timing's no good, and Charming must find his one true love before fulfilment of the curse sees all love in his kingdom forever lost. Fortunately, there's a fashionably feisty girl (Lovato) to help him on his perilous bride quest. And she's seeking true love too. Unfortunately, she's passing herself off as a boy. So, much confusion before the inevitable finale. Pitched at younger kids, Charming is watchable without exactly setting the world on fire. But it's a decent second stringer for when the A-listers have all been watched. And for older viewers, there's John Cleese, voicing both a jovial public executioner and a Fairy Godmother.
