Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

This clumsy live-action version of Kenneth Grahame's classic novel by writer/director Terry Jones has captured little of the magic of the book. Jones's rendition of Toad is suitably ebullient, while fellow Python Eric Idle and Steve Coogan are pleasing enough as Rat and Mole. However, the addition of a dog-meat factory subplot to supplement Toad's brushes with the law is a major misjudgement, as is the decision to pack the supporting cast with cameoing celebrities. The result is nowhere near as much fun as it should be.
