Comedy starring Kelly Macdonald. Things look bleak for the workers at La Scala, a small bingo hall in the Welsh valleys, when a major chain opens a massive rival centre nearby. But then one staff member discovers she has amazing predictive powers.
A run-down seafront bingo hall faces closure due to the twin threats of a leaking roof and competition from a new superhall. The establishment's only hope lies in a lucrative national lotto game and an usherette's psychic ability to influence the way balls fall. Youngsters Kelly Macdonald and Jason Hughes give spirited performances, as do veterans Freddie Jones and Miriam Margolyes. But they're hogtied by a weak script and ham-fisted handling which fails to generate tension, even during the climactic big-game finale. Eyes down for a full cinema? Don't bet on it.
