John Marriott

After a successful career as a child model and a controversial star-making turn as a 12-year-old prostitute in Louis Malle's Pretty Baby, Brooke Shields has struggled to be taken seriously as an actress and has increasingly resorted to roles in TV movies and series. In this true-story tale she stars as Laura, a whizzkid at a California electronics company, who becomes an obsession in the fixated mind of a colleague and is hounded for four years. Shields makes a decent fist of a tricky role and Richard Thomas (of The Waltons fame) is suitably sinister as her creepy workmate, but director Michael Switzer, while delivering efficient thrills, never really gets a handle on the psychological depths of his characters.
